Imi Knoebel is one of Germany’s most well known artists. He was born in Dessau in 1940 and was a student of Joseph Beuys. He has been a key figure in abstract art for at least 30 years and in 2000 was accorded a retrospective at Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum.
He is best known for his abstract painting and uses colour, brushstrokes and contrasting panels in his most widely recognised works.
