John Reynolds was born in Auckland in 1956 and graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He began exhibiting in 1980 and has used many materials and motifs, most recently using linear marks against minimalist backgrounds. He often uses complex titles which represent his interpretation of various issues he feels strongly about.
John is generally regarded as one of New Zealand's more intellectual artists. He was a finalist in the inaugural 2002 Walters Prize. His work is represented in all major public collections in New Zealand.
