Jin Jiangbo is a contemporary Chinese artist and photographer based in Shanghai. He was born in 1972 in Zhejiang province and completed his PhD at Tsinghua University in 2012.
His most recent work is based on his interest in an ancient style of Chinese painting called Shanshui from the 5th century AD. Instead of using black ink and rice paper, he used analog photography to capture snapshots of natural scenes before digitally reworking them.
He says “New Zealand was a kind of déjà vu. In my eyes, the scenery possessed the same kind of aesthetic spirit as the mountains and waterfalls of Song Dynasty landscapes.”
He is currently Professor and Vice Dean at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University.
