Andrew Blythe is a self-taught artist. In his early life, he was in and out of hospital and was at times living rough on the streets of Auckland. It was during this time that Andrew Blythe started to draw his experiences with Indian ink and pencil.
His work is supported by Toi Ora Live Art Trust, a community arts centre that provides tuition and space for people who have experienced mental health issues.
His work often features patterns of noughts and crosses and can be read in a linear way as its patterns lead the eye in a certain direction. Some of his work features intricate, layered patterns and bears a resemblance to Aboriginal painting. Andrew Blythe artist creations are celebrated for their emotional depth and unique style.
Andrew’s work is represented in many collections, including the Chartwell Collection and the James Wallace Art Trust. His journey and accomplishments make Andrew Blythe a prominent figure in the art world.
