Ann Robinson was born in Auckland in 1944 and graduated in 1980 from Auckland University with a Diploma of Fine Arts.
She is a leading cast glass artist recognised both in New Zealand and internationally. Her practice stretches back more than 40 years and during this time she has experimented and innovated with wax casting glass and has also spearheaded the development of New Zealand cast glass art.
She uses references and inspiration from the natural environment and incorporates shapes of leaf forms, seed pods and organic natural flora forms. The way that each of her glass vessels absorbs and emits light transforms them into works of intrinsic beauty. They seem to contain a clear and pure light that changes with its surroundings.
In 2001 she was awarded the “Officer of the NZ Order of Merit”. In 2004 she received a NZ Arts Foundation Arts Laureate Award and in 2006 she received a “Lifetime Award” for her services to glass from the American Glass Society.
Her work is held in many private and public collections as well as Te Papa, Auckland Art Gallery, Christchurch Art Gallery, The National Gallery of Victoria and the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
