Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst was born in 1965 and is a British contemporary artist. His works are renowned internationally as confrontational and groundbreaking. Damien Hirst art often explores themes of life, death, and ethics, making him one of the most influential artists of his generation. His name has become synonymous with contemporary art and bold artistic statements.

Two of these works are from a series titled The Virtues, where each work is named after one of the eight virtues of Bushido, as described by Nitobe Inazo who wrote a book called Bushido: The Soul of Japan, that narrates the samurai code of ethics and details the ways in which Japanese nobles were expected to maintain themselves in their daily and vocational lives. These eight virtues are titled Justice, Courage, Mercy, Politeness, Honesty, Honour, Loyalty, and Control. These themes resonate strongly in Damien Hirst prints and paintings, which often provoke thought and challenge traditional artistic boundaries.
