Darryn George is of Ngāpuhi descent and lives and works in Christchurch. He graduated from Canterbury University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and completed a Master of Fine Arts at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1998.
He designs templates for his hard-edged geometric works on the computer and later selects those he will paint. His paintings are created with oil-based or acrylic paint on canvas or, in some cases, painted directly onto walls. His unique style blends modern abstraction with traditional Māori motifs and designs, creating a distinctive approach to contemporary art.
