Ed Atkins was born in 1982 in Oxford. He graduated from The Slade School of University College London with a Masters in Fine Arts. He is a British contemporary artist best known for his digital videos, computer animation, photography and poetry.
His videos often incorporate computer generated avatars – 3 dimensional rendered human beings that he uses to create new versions of reality. Voiced by the artist himself, they address the viewer with intimate, poetic dialogues. He describes these characters as models, demonstrably empty vessels that do or say whatever he wants them to do. They often bear a striking resemblance to the artist.
He has exhibited widely at The Tate Britain, MoMA New York, The Serpentine Gallery London and in many other international institutions.
