Elliot Collins graduated from AUT in 2007 with a Masters of Art and Design and gained a practice lead PhD in Visual Art in 2019. He completed residencies in France and the Netherlands in 2011 and more recently, India.
He has a unique method of “cutting” text into thickly painted surfaces. It is the poetry of his language however that sets him apart from others and the words he chooses have often been around for a couple of years before they make it into a painting. His practice draws reference to poetry, language, naming, boundaries and memorials.
His work is represented in many collections including Auckland Art Gallery, The Chartwell Trust and James Wallace Arts Trust.
