Joanna Braithwaite was born in 1962, attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Canterbury University and Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Sydney.
She produces richly layered oil paintings with loose brushwork and her subject matter is concerned with the relationship between humans and animals. She adds anthropomorphic characteristics to animals and birds to create unexpected and imaginative creatures.
This work is from an exhibition called “The Hover Series” where she painted works where the human form was completely covered in creatures that could fly.
Joanna now lives and works in Sydney.
