Johl Dwyer was born in 1985 in Auckland and graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006 and a Masters of Fine Arts in 2014.
He creates artworks made from plaster, cedar, enamel, oil, acrylic and resin and the forms they are set in resemble paintings. The colour of resin, the surface and the depth of the material form the artwork. He uses pigment based colour and light based colour to experiment with the ways the two meet and intersect.
His work is featured in many collections including the Chartwell collection at Auckland Art Gallery and in the Wallace Collection.
