Sara Hughes is a Canadian born New Zealander born in 1971. She graduated from Elam at the University of Auckland in 2001 with a Masters of Fine Arts. and was the winner of the prestigious Wallace Arts Award in 2005.
Primarily a painter, she works with patterned components of dots, squares and paisley. In 2019 she was commissioned to make her largest ever public artwork made of glass for the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland.
She has exhibited consistently since graduating and has completed many commissioned installations. Her work is part of many major private and public collections throughout New Zealand and Australia.
