Yona Lee was born in South Korea and now lives and works in Auckland. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Elam at the Auckland University, 2010. She originally studied and trained as a cellist at Auckland University’s Music School however she began questioning this direction and changed to study Fine Arts.
Earlier in her career she created site specific, maze like installations of a huge scale made of pipes and steel. She spent hours training in engineering shops learning metal work and welding skills to create her work. More recently she has started to consider how different elements of her work could function as stand alone pieces. Her most recent works include domestic fixtures such as beds, lamps, desks and mops incorporated into her design.
Yona Lee exhibits widely both internationally and in New Zealand.
